great compilation of solo- and collaboration tracks by the ALLGÄU based composer and ZEN / Shakuhachi teacher, i.e.: a flute version of the COIL song "Fire of the Mind" played at the Abbey of Aleister Crowley, in Sicily; a piece performed in the burial chamber of the Great Pyramid of Cheops, and collab tracks with LIMPE FUCHS, J. IRMLER (FAUST), and TROUM; accomponied by a beautiful full colour 20 p. booklet; => evocative experimental drone and improv music for meditation & ritual !!
"Ambient Koan is the 16th album from Zen flutist Viz Michael Kremietz, where shakuhachi breath and 25 years of Zen practice meet experimental sound.
Solo works written for theater intertwine with collaborations spanning different moments and encounters with European experimental musicians.
In this album, TROUM shapes vast dreamlike drones, while Limpe Fuchs, a pioneer of elemental sound and voice since the 70's, adds violin and unique sonic sculptures. Hans-Joachim Irmler of FAUST, a Krautrock legend, folds shifting layers of tone and texture into ritual, accompanied by Lucia Dinand's ghostly vocals and Reiko Ozaki's traditional Japanese lullaby.
Among these pieces lies Fire of the Mind, recorded at Crowley's abbey in Sicily, a Shakuhachi homage to COIL's Balance & Christopherson.
A passage into unknown dimensions."
